Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai, bringing together fintech companies, financial institutions, technology firms, regulators and investors for four days of discussions on the future of financial technology. The event is scheduled for September 8–11 at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai.
The inauguration comes as India’s fintech ecosystem moves into a new phase, with artificial intelligence, agentic payments, quantum technology and tokenisation emerging as major themes at this year’s event.
AI and Agentic Payments in Focus
One of the most closely watched developments is India’s proposed framework for AI-powered agentic payments on UPI. According to Reuters, India is preparing a system that could allow AI agents to make small, routine digital payments without requiring users to approve every individual transaction. The initiative is expected to be introduced around the Global Fintech Fest.
The proposed framework could incorporate spending limits, identity verification and rule-based controls, potentially creating a new layer of automated digital commerce while addressing concerns around security and liability.
Mumbai Becomes Global Fintech Meeting Point
GFF 2026 is expected to provide a platform for global fintech leaders to discuss digital payments, financial inclusion, emerging technologies and the next generation of financial infrastructure. The official event website lists the four-day programme from September 8 to 11 in Mumbai.
For India, the event also reinforces Mumbai’s position as a major fintech and financial-services hub. With UPI already operating at massive scale, the focus is increasingly shifting from basic digital payments toward AI-driven financial services and autonomous transactions.
The Global Fintech Fest therefore comes at a pivotal moment as India seeks to combine fintech innovation with secure, scalable and globally relevant digital financial infrastructure.
